Scofield Magnet Middle School Admission Procedures

1. The magnet elementary and middle schools in Stamford are intended to manage student enrollment, integration and to provide educational choices for families.

2. Admission to Scofield Magnet Middle School is by a controlled lottery. Students are selected for Scofield in numbers proportional to the size and integration balance of the sending middle schools. To accomplish this goal, both a Educationally Disadvantaged and Educationally Non-Disadvantaged list is created, for students assigned to Cloonan, Dolan, Rippowam, and Turn of River, for a total of eight lottery lists.

3. Priority admission is granted to children with a sibling who will be attending the Scofield Magnet Middle School in September 2008.

4. All other students will be selected by their lottery number from the eight lottery lists created as described above.

5. Lottery applications for the Scofield Magnet Middle School should be submitted to Scofield Magnet Middle School. It is encouraged that applications are hand delivered, not mailed, to ensure safe delivery. The deadline for submitting applications is 4:00 P.M. on Monday, March 3, 2008. Late applications will not be entered in the lottery. These applications will be time stamped and considered only after the lottery list is exhausted.

6. Letters will be mailed home to parents regularly to indicate receipt of lottery applications. If you have applied to the Scofield Magnet Middle School and do not receive a letter of receipt within six weeks of submitting your application, please call the Research Office at 977-4198.

7. At a meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 in the Government Center Board Room, 5th floor, the lottery process will be reviewed and you will be told your child’s lottery number. You can also learn your child’s number by calling the Research Office on Monday, March 19th at 977-4198 or 977-4201. Please note that parking in the Government Center is limited, but parking is always available in the Bell Street Parking Garage. The security office of the Government Center will validate your parking ticket.

8. By the last week in March, letters will be mailed home to parents of children accepted through the lottery. Parents will have until April 11th to respond. If a response is not received within that time period, the next child on the lottery list will be invited to enroll.

9. After the initial letter invitation, offers of invitation will be made by telephone. Parents will have five school days to respond. If a response is not received within that time period, the next child on the lottery list will be invited to enroll.

10. If you have questions or need further assistance, please call the Research Office at

(203) 977-4750 or 977-4198.
