Career and Technical Education: FAQs About
Stamford Public Schools Intership Program

W

hat kinds of tasks can an intern do at my company?

Interns can do all kinds of office assistant work like filing, answering phones, spreadsheets, or billing, whatever is needed to have them be a productive member of your team. The objective is for the student to gain professional experience by being in a professional environment. Ideally they would be involved in a variety of tasks and would be exposed to a number of different people and situations.

How long is an internship and when can they work?

Each internship is flexible and can be tailored to meet the needs of both the company and the student. In order for an intern to gain the most beneficial experience, they should be employed for at least 180 hours. This experience can take place over the summer or during the school year, or both. Interns can also work weekends if needed.

Who would I contact if any questions arose during an internship?

The Career and Technical Education Facilitator, Mara Siladi, carefully prepares and monitors each intern while they are working. If you have any questions or any issues that arise while a student is an intern in your company, the CTE Facilitator is always available to provide assistance to you and the student.

Are internships paid or unpaid?

All of our internships are paid positions. Students fill out tax forms just like a regular employee. Currently, minimum wage is $7.65/hour.
